Jay Melnick practices in all areas of commercial real estate, corporate and real estate finance, and general corporate law.

Jay represents real estate and other investment funds, institutional lenders, real estate developers, healthcare providers, not-for-profit entities and national and multinational companies in diverse industries including technology, manufacturing, food and beverage sales and operations, airport fixed-base operations, professional services and retail. He specializes in real estate acquisitions and dispositions, leasing, real estate and commercial lending and complex structuring and restructuring matters. Jay has served as general outside counsel to companies having diverse operations throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe.

Before founding ArgosLaw, LLC, Jay practiced with the real estate boutique Field and Goldberg, LLC, in the real estate/structured finance group at Seyfarth Shaw LLP and in the corporate/private equity group at Altheimer & Gray LLP. In addition to his legal experience, Jay has been a senior executive with several major food and beverage operators.

After graduating with highest honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Jay earned his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

Jay is licensed to practice in Illinois and is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

Jay serves on several Jewish United Fund committees and has published materials such as “Leasehold Financing: It’s Good to Have Options” in Commercial Leasing Law & Strategy. He is fluent in Spanish and conversational in several other languages. Jay’s favorite pastimes include helicopter skiing, playing guitar, motorcycle touring, dog training and computer programming.
