Firm Name

What’s in a name?

Our firm’s name comes from Homer’s Odyssey, which tells the story of its hero, Odysseus, and his adventures during his 10-year journey home after the Trojan War.

When Odysseus finally reaches his homeland in Ithaca, his former life is in disarray. Reckless and disrespectful suitors have taken over Odysseus’s estate in the hope of marrying his wife, Penelope. In order to secretly enter and retake his home, Odysseus disguises himself as a beggar. He reveals his true identity only to his son, Telemachus.

No one recognizes the legendary Odysseus – not even his lifelong friend Eumaeus – until he encounters an old, tired and obviously neglected dog. That dog is Argos the Great Dog, whom Odysseus had raised from a puppy. In his youth, Argos been famous for his superior speed, strength and tracking abilities. Argos recognizes Odysseus immediately, and before dying, Argos uses the last of his strength to drop his ears, wag his tail, and lovingly and respectfully acknowledge his master. Odysseus cannot help quietly shedding a tear at the sincere loyalty shown by Argos.
